Billig's Home Run Highlights Day Three of Spring Trip

JAN PHYL VILLAGE, Fl. -- The Edinboro softball team came within an inning of picking up its first win of the young season. They will receive a much-needed off day on Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday, March 12, facing Dominican at 12:30 p.m. and Trevecca Nazarene at 2:45 p.m.

The Fighting Scots fell to 0-6 on Tuesday after dropping an 8-0 decision in six innings to Ohio Dominican, followed by a 9-3 setback to Minnesota State Moorhead in the nightcap. Moorhead pushed across six runs in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 3-3 tie.

OHIO DOMINICAN 8, EDINBORO 0 (6 innings)
After a pair of scoreless innings, Ohio Dominican struck for four runs in the bottom of the third, two scoring on a double by Taylor Farmer. The Panthers added two runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the sixth to halt the contest. The Edinboro offense was held at bay by Sydney Long, who tossed a four-hitter. Edinboro did get runners on first and second in the fifth on singles by Julia Hill and Samantha Martz, but could not push across a run. Jolene Teller and Shannon Gilbert added singles for the Fighting Scots. Ohio Dominican improved to 7-12.

MINNESOTA STATE MOORHEAD 9, EDINBORO 3
Tied at 3-3 entering the seventh inning, the Dragons would score six runs in the top of the seventh. Three of those came on a pinch hit home run by Ashley McCance. Edinboro took a 2-0lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run home run by freshman Camryn Billig. Her first career homer came after Lauren Gierlak opened the game with a single. Moorhead would score three times in the top of the third, but Edinboro would tie the game at 3-3 with a run in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a Dragons' error. Edinboro would manage just one more hit, however, a sixth inning single by Julia Hill. The Fighting Scots finished with six hits. Freshman Dylan Claycomb would pitch well until running into trouble in the seventh. She allowed just four earned runs. Moorhead is now 3-7.
