Fighting Scots ride big second half run to 18-8 win at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, WV – Seven different players scored as Edinboro used a big second half to roll to an 18-8 win at Davis & Ekins on Wednesday afternoon. The victory boosted Edinboro to 2-2 and wrapped up a two-match southern swing, while the Senators dropped to 1-3.

Edinboro grabbed a 6-4 lead at the half as Hailey and Sidney Dobbins each scored a pair of goals. Davis & Elkins would knot the score early in the second half with goals by Emily Smith and Angelina Horan.

The Fighting Scots would dominate the scoring after that, running off eight straight goals, including six in a period of four minutes. Sophie DePalma got the run going with back-to-back goals, the first at 24:29 and the next at 23:52. Kandyce Graham (22:32) followed with a goal, and the Fighting Scots then took an 11-6 lead with a pair of goals in a span of ten seconds. Hailey Dobbins scored a free position goal at 21:23, and Gianna Alessandro followed with a goal, assisted by Sidney Dobbins, just ten seconds later at 21:13.

Edinboro would score three more goals to boost the lead to 14-6 before Davis & Elkins finally ended the run. Hailey Dobbins scored her fourth goal of the match at 20:20, and four minutes later Alessandro notched her third goal on a free position shot. Hailey Dobbins' fifth goal at 13:11 was the last of the eight in a row.

Davis & Elkins broke a scoreless streak of 18 minutes with a goal by Horan at 9:40 to make it 14-7. Edinboro would add four more goals to close out the match.

The Fighting Scots finished with a 32-21 advantage in shots, and were a perfect 14-of-14 on clears. Davis & Elkins had 16 turnovers compared to just nine for Edinboro.

Hailey Dobbins led Edinboro with five goals, while Alessandro and DePalma had three goals apiece. Mary Uplinger had a pair of goals and four assists, while Sidney Dobbins had two goals and an assist. Graham scored twice while Marina Adelizzio contributed a goal.
Kaitlyn Binotto and Christina Clutter shared time in goal, with Binotto recording three saves and Clutter two.

Edinboro returns home to host its home opener on Saturday, March 14 against Gannon. The 1 p.m. match will also mark the start of PSAC play.
