WVB | RECAP | Women’s Volleyball picks up sixth straight win, with victory over IUP

Edinboro, Pa. - With its sixth straight win and sixth straight sweep, the Edinboro University volleyball team recorded a 3-0 victory (25-22, 30-28, 25-22) over Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday night at McComb Fieldhouse. With tonight's win the Fighting Scots improved to (10-1) overall and (3-0) in PSAC West competition. The Crimson Hawks fall to (9-9) overall and (0-3) in the PSAC West. 

Bella Burrelli was terrific on the attack, she led the team with 14 kills, Burrelli now has 147 kills on the season 

Natalie Pallone contributed 10 kills of her own, Sally Sterkel had an efficient five kills in just 11 attacks 

Edinboro's offense continued to run smooth with Alicia Eldredge distributing, Eldredge posted an impressive 33 assists and now has 377 on the season 

The Fighting Scots defense was on lockdown against IUP, Edinboro combined for five blocks Erica Sharp contributed three and Burrelli added two 

Burrelli also led Edinboro in digs with 19, Carly Pry contributed 14 and Abby Monn added nine 

IUP came out hot in the beginning of the first set, they gained an early lead 4-1 with the service of Leah Henderson. From then on, Edinboro began to heat up when they rattled off three straight points that consisted of two kills by Pallone. IUP then went on their own three point run to tie up the first set 24-24. The set ended with Burrelli recording a service ace to conclude the first set 26-24 Edinboro. 

The second set Edinboro brought the energy, and won the second set in a dominate fashion. The only tie of the set was when it was 1-1, Edinboro never looked back and led the rest of the way. Edinboro's best performance of the night on the attack came in the second set. Edinboro posted 14 kills and had a hit percentage of .333. IUP was held to a hit percentage of .048 in the second set. Edinboro last point of the set came from a kill by Monn, that was assisted by Eldredge. Edinboro won the set 25-16. 

The final set was another battle between the two PSAC West schools. Edinboro began the third set with an impressive run that was serviced by Eldredge. The Fighting Scots went from being down 8-10 to leading IUP 15-10. The service error by IUP's Lexi Hraga was the match point for Edinboro. The Fighting Scots won the third and final set 25-21. 

Edinboro will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 2 when they host University of Pitt Johnstown at 4 p.m.
