Edinboro, Pa. - The Edinboro University volleyball team was victorious in three quick sets (25-13, 25-14, 25-18) over D'Youville college, in a non-conference match up on Tuesday night at the College Center Gym in Buffalo, NY. With the win the Fighting Scots improved to (15-3) overall. The Saints falls to (2-15) overall.
On the offensive attack for Edinboro freshman Abby Monn led the way with a team-high seven kills
Sophomore Natalie Pallone also contributed six kills and posted a .500 hitting percentage, junior Erica Sharp and junior Bella Burrelli each added four kills of their own
In the assists department senior Alicia Eldredge found great success in setting up her teammates, Eldredge posted a game-high 21 assists
Eldredge also led the team with four service aces, freshman Carly Pry contributed three of her own as well
On the defensive side Edinboro was successful in shutting down the Saint's attack, Edinboro held D'Youville to a hitting percentage of -.046
Pallone led the team with five total blocks, while Sharp, senior Sally Sterkel, and sophomore Sydnee Jones all contributed three total blocks each
Monn also led the team in the digs department, she posted nine digs, while Burrelli and Pry each contributed eight digs
In the opening set of the match Edinboro came out on fire and won the first set 25-13. The Scots got out to an early lead and were up 5-1 off Eldredge's service and back-to-back kills by Monn. Edinboro continued to gain a bigger lead with the momentum they built up. At one point in the first set Edinboro went up 19-8 after an ace by Eldredge and a kill by Burrelli. Edinboro scored three of the last four points of the set and won 25-13.
In the second set Edinboro continued to build off the momentum gained in the first set. Edinboro would win the set 25-14. Early in the second set Edinboro went on a 6-1 run which was highlighted by a service ace by Monn and sophomore Emelia Rowell. Edinboro held D'Youville to a hitting percentage of -.032. Edinboro would score five of the last six points of the match. Junior Jessie Michel ended the set with a kill, Edinboro won the second set 25-14.
In the third set, Edinboro's dominance would carry over to the final set of the match. Edinboro would win their third set by a score of 25-18. Midway through the set Edinboro scored four straight points, through the run Eldredge posted back-to-back aces. Later in the set D'Youville scored three straight points, Edinboro responded with a kill by Sharp. The final point of the match was a kill by Jones. Edinboro defeated D'Youville in the third set 25-18, to conclude the sweep.
Edinboro will be back in action on Oct. 22, when they host Clarion University at 6 p.m.
