EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro women return to the pool on Friday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. as they compete against Indiana (Pa.) at McComb Fieldhouse, Edinboro, Pa. The Fighting Scots were last in competition back in April where they finished sixth overall at the PSAC Championships.
Edinboro have been preparing for the season opener through an intra-squad meet that had a host of action with some top performances.
Leia Ross had two first place finishes on the day, first coming in the 200-yard freestyle finishing at 2:07.25, beating Paige Smith (2:08.77) and Olivia Yaremcho (2:25.48). Leia was also victorious in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.97, in second place was Sydney Cade at 1:10.58.
The 50-yard freestyle saw a tie in first place with Avery Zuck and Madison Cordial both finishing at 26.66. Following them was Hannah Brewer (27.56) and Sydney Cade (27.96) in a highly competitive race.
In the 200-yard IM Thea Hennesey took first place with a time of 2:33.78, in second was Olivia Yaremcho at 2:45.77. Olivia was the eventual winner in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing at 1:17.18 with Thea Hennesey in second at 1:18.52.
Stephanie Sipple placed first in two races. First was the 100-yard butterfly, finishing at 1:01.03 where Hannah Brewer followed in second at 1:07.25. Stephanie also placed top in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:38.67. Paige Smith (5:44.70) placed second, Makayla Scheu (6:04.43) in third and in fourth was Avery Zuk (6:10.12).
The 100-yard freestyle was won by Makayla Scheu with a time of 56.20, Madison Cordial followed in second at 1:00.63.
"The team has been doing a great job training and this will give us an idea of where we are right now. They seem like they are eager to race so I am excited to see what we can do."
