Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team held Davis & Elkins to just two points in the final 1:11 of the game to earn a 77-72 victory Wednesday night at McComb Fieldhouse.
Macie Jarrett made a 3-pointer at the 6:23 mark of the third quarter to push the Edinboro lead to its largest margin 57-39. The Senators closed the quarter on a 17-0 run capped by a mid-court heave that went for Dream Cherry to cut the lead to 57-56.
Davis & Elkins trimmed the lead to three times in the fourth. The last time on an Allie Taylor triple to trim it to 67-66 at the 4:18 mark of the fourth.
Ashten Boggs pulled down a rebound and went coast-to-coast to push the advantage to 69-66. Haley Sims hit a 3-pointer of her own with 3:01 to play make the score 72-66.
Four straight points from the Senators cut the lead back to 72-70, but the Fighting Scots went 5-of-6 from the free throw line to ice the game and earn the victory.
Davis & Elkins jumped out to a 10-6 advantage out of the gate. Edinboro closed out the first half on a 16-7 spurt to take a 22-17 lead into the second quarter.
The Senators answered with an 11-6 spurt of their own to get back within one, 28-27, with 7:11 left in the second. The Fighting Scots doubled up Davis & Elkins in the last seven minutes to take a 48-37 lead into the half.
Boggs netted a game-high 24 points to go with eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Sims finished with 19 points six boards and two steals.
Emma Elash added 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Scots return to action on Saturday when they travel to Walsh for a 1 p.m. tipoff against the Cavaliers.
