Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro football team took the lead on the first play of the fourth quarter and made the lead hold up for a 17-10 victory over visiting Clarion Saturday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium.
With 1:33 left in the third,
Sir Dennis II made a diving play on the football keeping the Golden Eagles out of the end zone. The ball popped into the air and
Reed Martin intercepted it putting the ball on the 20-yard line after the touchback.
After a 10-yard completion from
Isaac Bernard to
Jack Hollibaugh,
Nigel Sealey rushed for 21 moving the ball to the Golden Eagle 49. On the final play of the third quarter, Bernard found
Armani Bailey down the left sideline for 44-yards setting the Scots up first and goal from the five.
Anfreenee Willaims wasted no time giving Edinboro the lead on the first play of the fourth with a five-yard plunge to make the score 17-10.
The Fighting Scot defense would make the lead hold up, forcing two Clarion punts and forcing two turnovers on downs to seal the win.
Clarion struck first in the contest eating up 8:07 of the first quarter and covering 83 yards before being held to a 33-yard Jarrett Esposito field goal.
Edinboro answered back in the second driving 61 yards on 10 plays capped by a 20-yard screen pass from Bernard to Hollibaugh. Vincente Arriagada tacked on the extra point to make it 7-3 with 3:13 left in the second.
After a quick three and out by the Golden Eagles, the Scots moved down the field and set up Arriagada from 31-yards out to make the score 10-3 at the break.
Clarion knotted the score with 7:43 left in the third quarter on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Zachariah Sanderson to Nathan Roby.
Bernard finished the day 16-for-29 for 239 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions. Bailey led the receivers with four catches for 82 yards. Williams paced the rushing attack with 55 yards on 13 carries. Sealey added 47 yards and a 5.2 yards per carry average.
On the defensive side,
Saige Ley made 13 tackles.
Clay Cunningham made nine stops.
Tarique Smith made an impact late in the game with two key sacks to slow Golden Eagle drives with the Scots in the lead.
The Fighting Scots helped head coach jake Nulph pick up his first win in Sox Harrison Stadium. Edinboro improved to 3-6 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC West.
The Scots will close out their season with a trip to Millersville. Kickoff is slated for a noon kickoff.
