Women's tennis sweeps Clarion in Tuesday afternoon match

CLARION, Pa. - The Edinboro women's tennis team was able to pick up their third win of the season and third victory in PSAC play. Their win over the Golden Eagles makes it nine wins out of the last 10 matches the Fighting Scots have won between the two PSAC programs.

Edinboro was able to pick up victories in the number one and two doubles matches with Kaede Tada (Kashiwa, Japan) and Torye Calleja (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek) victorious in the number one slot and Ana Nadai (Vitoria, Brazil/AF Americas) and Marina Zottele (Sao Jose Dos Campos) picking up a win in the number two doubles match. Tada and Calleja have now won four of their last six doubles contests.

"The girls came out very strong and ready to go in doubles. They carried over this momentum into their singles matches and I am very proud of how they played today." said Edinboro Head Tennis Coach Kody Duncan about his teams performance Tuesday evening.

In single's Tada once again extended her winning streak by picking up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the number one spot. This is now seven straight victories for the newcomer. Calleja has also now won two straight singles contests heading into tomorrow's tilt with IUP. Zottele, Nadai, and Emily Cevera (Ashtabula, Ohio) also picked up their most impressive single's victories of the season as they were able to take leads early in the match and they would not look back from there.

Due to Clarion only having five competitors, the matches at number six singles and number three triples were ruled forfeits. Emily Moczulski (Queens, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) accepted the victory at number six singles for Edinboro with the duo of Cevera and Lauren Chiacchia (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) accepting the forfeit at the number three doubles position.

All-in-all, it was a total team win and helped kick a recent skid. Up next for the women's team is a home match vs. fellow PSAC institution Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). The match is slated to kick-off at 4:00 p.m.
