Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

DePalma reaches 100 career points, Binotto reaches 100 career saves as Edinboro lacrosse celebrates departing seniors with a win over Elmira

EDINBORO, Pa. Sophie DePalma wasted little time surpassing the century mark in points Thursday afternoon, while Kaitlyn Binotto reached her milestone in the final two minutes of regulation.

All told, both were satisfied with their team's 12-5 victory over Elmira, avenging a loss earlier in the week.

DePalma's feat came on an assist on an Angelina Anderson goal, her sixth of the season.

It became a 4-0 game in favor of Edinboro with 22:54 remaining in the first half off the stick of Maddie Mulcahy for her second goal of the contest.

Elmira got a goal back to make it 5-1, but Edinboro answered with two straight goals from Gionna Alessandro and DePalma.

Another goal by Elmira made it 6-2, but again the Fighting Scots rallied back with two goals to answer and give them an 8-2 lead heading into the halftime locker room.

The second half commenced with another Mulcahy goal to make it 9-2.

The next Boro score came from Kandyce Graham, making it 10-4 with her second goal of the season. Goals by Marina Adelizzio (assisted by Graham) and Anderson (assisted by DePalma) made it a 12-5 final.

As time winded down in the second half, those in attendance felt the energy knowing Binotto needed just one save to reach 100. Elmira got a free shot with 6:10 remaining and the crowd held their collective breathe.

Elmira's Keri Jenson took the shot and Binotto turned it away, but it slowly bounced over the goal line, just centimeters from Binotto's outstretched stick.

The Edinboro defense began to swarm the tired legs of Elmira's offense and it looked like regulation would run out without the Scots allowing another shot. Then around the two-minute mark, Elmira attempted a shot that Binotto stymied for career save 100.

Edinboro honored nine seniors Thursday, Binotto, Cecilia Koral, Graham, Alessandro, Adelizzio, Abigail Juzwick, Mulcahy, DePalma, and Candace McDole (not present).
