Teller went yard between lightning delays on Maura Pasquale's birthday

EDINBORO, PA – Edinboro gained momentum early on but lightning and rain made for a dreary Wednesday afternoon game against Cal.

Macy Sral retired the first three batters of the game, one by strike out and two by put out. Then, lightening was spotted in the area and the game was delayed for 30 minutes.

To open the bottom of the first, Nya Adams reached via double on a hit that rolled to the center field fence. Maura Pasquale, who celebrated her birthday Wednesday walked but the Scots failed to push a runner across.

Sral seemed no worse for the delay, she returned to the circle to initiate another ground out followed by a strike out in the bottom of the second inning. A pop out to Adams ended the frame.

A Mackenzie Quider batted ball resulted in error, but she got stranded on first base.

Sral gave up her first single of the game, then an error put Vulcans on first and second base with no outs. A single loaded the bases and Quider threw home for the first out of the inning. A Cal runner was called for interference at third on a play that would have scored a run.

Then an error allowed two runners to cross and Cal took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third and Maya Kozup made a diving catch to end the inning.

Edinboro got back on top in the bottom of the third as Adams singled to short, Cheyenne Shughart doubled Adams home, then Jolene Teller hit a home run to the opposite field and Edinboro led 3-2.

Cal re-took the lead in the top of the fourth, 5-3. They'd tack on five more in the top of the fifth, but Edinboro responded with a Shughart single that scored Adams.

After Cal knocked in two more runs in the seventh, the Scots staged a late rally. Lexi Klatt hit a single in a pinch-hit opportunity, Pasquale reached on error and Shughart hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.

Cal took the 12-5 final, then game two was postponed due to rain and lightning in the area.
