Box Score (New/Sortable Format) Edinboro, Pa. - With the team's first PSAC West game of the season, the Edinboro University volleyball team recorded a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-20, 25-18) over California University of Pennsylvania on Saturday night at McComb Fieldhouse. Including tonight's win, the Fighting Scots improved to 8-1 overall. The Vulcans fell to 5-6 overall.
Bella Burrelli was impressive and led the team with 17 kills, while Natalie Pallone contributed nine kills and had a hitting percentage of .250. Alicia Eldredge once again directed the offense with a spectacular performance, contributing 32 of the team's 35 assists.
Abby Monn led the way on defense, posting a team high 16 digs. Carly Pry also contributed 9 digs. Burrelli was effective on defense as well, recording three solo blocks. Pallone, Syndee Jones, and Sally Sterkel each had one solo block each.
Edinboro earned their win in the opening set, achieving a 25-21 victory. Cal U came out hot early on, forcing an Edinboro time out to end an 8-2 run. The first set consisted of nine ties and six lead changes.
The Fighting Scots found themselves in another battle in the second set, coming away with a 25-20 victory. Edinboro began heating up on the attack and recorded 14 kills in the set compared to Cal U's seven. Edinboro grabbed the lead early and never looked back, as there was only one lead change in the second set.
The most electrifying point of the night lasted nearly 45 seconds and came in the third final set that Edinboro claimed 25-18. Edinboro stayed consistent on the attack and added another 13 kills with a hitting percentage of .270. Edinboro won three straight points to conclude the game with a final set score of 25-18.
The Fighting Scots will be back in action on Sept. 28, as they travel to Clarion University for a matchup against the Golden Eagles at 6 p.m.
