Edinboro, Pa – A potential game tying three-pointer from Deontae Robertson fell short as the Edinboro men's basketball team was defeated by Slippery Rock 87-84, at the McComb Fieldhouse on Monday night. The Fighting Scots now fall to (5-11) overall and (3-8) in PSAC play.
Late in the second half Edinboro found themselves down 15 points, until a three-pointer from Cyrie Coates jumpstarted a 12-0 run for the Fighting Scots. The run came at a perfect time for Edinboro as it would later set them up for a chance to tie the game at the buzzer.
From the tip, Edinboro found themselves at a disadvantage as they were down 17-2 early in the first half. The Fighting Scots began to dig themselves out a hole with a smooth 6-0 run that was capped off with a fastbreak slam from Coates. Edinboro gained their biggest lead of the first half after a layup by Terrence Moore, which put the Scots ahead 36-32. Edinboro went into the half trailing 43-38.
At the beginning of the second half, Slippery Rock came out with strong momentum. The Rock would boost both their field goal and three-point percentage in the second half. The Rock's accomplished their biggest lead of the half at the 10:21 mark as they led 66-51.
Coates finished with a season-high 29 points and 11 rebounds.
Robertson followed him with 18 points, five rebounds and four steals.
Jaryn Simpson contributed 16 points and five assists.
Edinboro will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Erie, Pa for a matchup with Gannon University at 7:30 p.m.
