Edinboro, Pa. – Men and women's swimming are back on the road this Friday as they head to Notre Dame (Ohio) to compete in an out of conference dual meet.
Your Fighting Scots
- The first meet of the season saw Edinboro post many positive results with 17 times good enough for PSAC qualification.
- Makayla Scheu was named the PSAC Women's Swimmer of the Week announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon, after earning two first placed finishes. In the 50 free Scheu finished with a time of 24.78 and a time of 54.43 in the 100 free.
- Stephanie Sipple had two PSAC clinching times first with victory in the 1000 free (10:52.84) and then second place 100 butterfly (58.61). Baila Burgara followed in second place in the 1000 free with a time of 11:18.47.
- Armando Apigna clinched PSAC qualification in the 200 free (1:48.29) taking second place in the race. Ted Kinney and Frank Barger both earned PSAC times in the 50 free, Kinney touching the wall at 21.98 for second and Barger in fourth at 22.62.
- Elijah Innis took victory in the 100 butterfly in a time of 52.75. Luke Edmonds took second in the 100 free clinching a PSAC berth. Gerardo Gonzalez Ruiz closed out the men's side of the meet with a second place finish in the 100 backstroke (54.83 PSAC) with Apigna also clinching PSAC qualification in a time of 56.35.
- Lara De Carne and Paige Smith brought a close to the meet with both clinching PSCA places in the 100 backstroke. De Carne took second at 1:09.86 and Smith followed in the third at 1:11.03.
The Fighting Scots now look to build on their performances as they look ahead to Friday's competition. We caught up with Coach Rhodes to see how the team were doing this week in training and his hopes for this Friday:
