Edinboro, Pa. -- The Edinboro volleyball team will host PSAC West opponents Cal U and Seton Hill this weekend inside McComb Fieldhouse. on Friday (Oct. 28) at 6 pm the Scots will host Cal. On Saturday at 4 pm, Edinboro will host Seton Hill for Senior Day, where five seniors will be recognized.
Four-To-Go
The Scots enter the weekend with a (7-5) conference record and (17-7) overall. The Scots currently sit in fourth place in a tight PSAC West race, as only IUP, Gannon and top seed Clarion have obtained better conference records. Edinboro has four matches remaining in regular season play, with one match against top seed Clarion.
Offense
Edinboro's efficient attack has only improved as the season has gone on. The Scots now average a (.211) hitting percentage. Edinboro's kills leader Bella Burrelli leads the team with 250 kills averaging 2.98 kills per set. In the Scot's last three matches Burrelli has sustained a (.288) hitting percentage compared to her (.101) clip that she began the season with. Natalie Pallone is second with 219 kills on the year averaging 2.61 kills per set on a (.212) clip. Pallone has made a huge jump from last season in the kills department, she has already recorded nearly forty more kills in her sophomore season with Edinboro.
Setter Alicia Eldredge has been Edinboro's go-to facilitator this season with a team-high 711 assists. Eldredge has now moved into fourth place in the PSAC for assists as she averages 8.89 assists per set. Eldredge is now 277 assists away from 4,000 for her career.
Defense
Edinboro is second in the PSAC with 2.0 blocks per set, with only Shepherd averaging more. In their last match against Gannon, Edinboro tied a season-low when they finished with three total blocks. Sally Sterkel leads the team with 79 blocks on the season while averaging (0.94) per set. Sterkel has now tied her season high for total blocks from the 2018 season at (79).
The Scots are fourth in digs among the best in the conference. On the season the Scots have went for 1,434 digs and average 17.1 per set. Carly Pry leads the team with 384 on the year while averaging 4.74 per set. Pry is now 25 digs away from surpassing her total from her freshman season (408).
Cal U
The Vulcans come into the match with a (5-7) conference record and (11-10) overall. Cal is ranked sixth in the PSAC and is only ahead of Slippery Rock, Pitt-Johnstwon and Mercyhurst. The Vulcans have won two of their last four matches including an impressive sweep over top-seeded Clarion.
Edinboro and Cal competed against each other earlier this season back on Oct. 1. The Fighting Scots bested Cal on their home court in three sets. Edinboro finished with more kills, assists, digs and blocks on an impressive (.310) hitting percentage. Erica Sharp had a career day when she finished with 10 kills (.353) clip, five blocks and four service aces. For Cal, Kaylin Burkey finished with 10 kills and two service aces.
Cal is fifth in the conference for blocks (1.82 per set) and service aces (2.05 per set). Kaylin Burkey leads the Vulcans with 185 kills while averaging (2.43 per set). Alayja Floyd is Cal's block leader with 64 (0.91 per set) on the year.
Seton Hill
The Griffins come into the match with a (5-7) conference record and (15-9) overall. Seton Hill is ranked fifth in the PSAC and has sustained a slight edge over sixth place Cal. The Griffins have won three of their last four matches including a strong win over Pitt-Johnstown in five sets.
Edinboro and Seton Hill competed against each other earlier this season back on Sept. 30. The Fighting Scots bested Seton Hill on their home court in four sets. Edinboro finished with more kills, assists, digs and blocks on an impressive (.323) hitting percentage. Erica Sharp finished with 16 kills on a (.750) clip and Burrelli added ten kills along with five aces and 13 digs. For Seton Hill, Paige Cole finished with 10 kills, three aces and nine digs.
Seton Hill is sixth in the conference for blocks (1.80 per set) and hitting percentage (.187). Paige Cole leads the Griffins with 273 kills while averaging (3.14 per set). Carrie Leazer is Seton Hill's digs leader with 229 (3.18 per set) on the year.
