Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro football team dropped a 35-17 decision to visiting Gannon Saturday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium.
The Scots opened the game with a promising drive starting from their own 39 after a solid return on the opening kickoff. The Scots ate up nearly seven minutes of clock advancing to the Gannon 15, but were stopped on fourth and two from the 15.
After the teams traded punts, Gannon took the lead on a 16-yard pass from Kory Curtis to Damerisse Freeman capping an 11-play 63-yard drive. On the ensuing Scot possession, the Golden Knights stepped in front of an
Isaac Bernard pass and needed just three plays to cover the 40-yards to take a 14-0 lead.
Edinboro got on the board with 3:35 left in the second cashing in a shanked punt with a 36-yard
Richie Pekmezian field goal to trim the lead to 14-3.
Gannon would strike once more before the half with Curtis finding KeJohn Bastiste for 56 yards to extend the halftime lead to 21-3.
Antonio Wright scored his second touchdown of the game this one from 27 yards out with 8:39 left in the third to push the advantage to 28-3.
The Scots answered back on their next drive going 55-yards in seven plays capped by a 16-yard strike from Bernard to
Thaddeus Standfield.
Wright would make it a 35-10 game with 3:13 remaining in the third scoring on a 47-yard rush.
In the fourth,
Wilfredo Diaz forced and then recovered a fumble that Karamago Sylla immediately cashed in with a 13-yard touchdown run with 2:34 to play to set the final.
Sylla was the Scots leading rusher going for 72 yards and a score while also catching three passes for 22 yards.
Wright led the Golden Knights with 213 yards rushing and three scores.
Clay Cunningham led the Edinboro defense with 11 tackles including three for a loss and one sack.
Allen Stritzinger,
Malcolm Johnson and Diaz each finished with 10 stops.
The Scots are back in action next Saturday when they host IUP at 12 p.m.
