Clarion, Pa.-- The Edinboro volleyball team was defeated by Clarion University (16-25, 12-25, 25-22, 18-25) on Friday night inside the Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium. With the loss, Edinboro falls to (19-8) overall and (9-6) in conference play.
In four sets played, Clarion recorded 31 more kills and six more aces than the Fighting Scots. Edinboro finished with a (.131) hitting percentage compared to the Golden Eagle's (.295) clip.
In the opening set Clarion came out on the attack by earning 17 kills on a (.295) clip. It was Edinboro who jumped out to an early 4-2 lead after a bad set from Clarion. The Golden Eagles countered with a strong run of their own. Back-to-back blocks and a kill from Clarion put them ahead 9-5. Later, a 5-0 run from Clarion extended their lead to 24-14. Another kill from Clarion would retire the set at 25-16.
In the second set Clarion continued with their momentum as they hit a match-best (.481) hitting percentage. Early on an ace from Clarion capped off a 5-0 run which put them ahead 12-5. Later, a block shared between Sally Sterkel and Natalie Pallone cut the Clarion lead to 17-9. From that point the Golden Eagles ended the set on a 8-3 run as a kill retired the set at 25-12.
Edinboro was able to turn things around in the third set with 14 kills and their best hitting percentage of the night at (.324). The Scots jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead after back-to-back blocks from Pallone and Erica Sharp. Later, Edinboro continued to pour on the points with a 6-1 run. The run was fueled by two kills from Bella Burrelli, as Edinboro led 16-8. The Scots closed out their strong third set with kills from Alicia Eldredge, Pallone and Sharp. Edinboro retired the set at 25-22.
In the fourth set Clarion regained their momentum as they earned 17 kills on a (.314) hitting percentage. Early on after a hot start from Clarion, a kill from Kasey Smith cut the Golden Eagle's lead to 10-8. Later, a kill from sharp followed by an ace from Sharp tied the set at 16-16. From that point on, Clarion would finish the set on a 9-2 run. The Golden Eagle's last four points included one ace and three kills. Clarion retired the set 25-18 and clinched the match.

Edinboro will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Johnstown for their final regular season match at 2 pm.
