Bloomsburg, Pa. -- The Edinboro women's basketball team ran their record to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in PSAC West play after defeating host Bloomsburg 85-70 Friday afternoon.
The Scots trailed 27-26 after an Ella Kale bucket with 4:55 remaining in the second quarter. Edinboro took the lead back with eight straight points including six points from
Rana Elhusseini to make it 34-27 with 2:34 left to play in the quarter. Bloomsburg trimmed the lead to three, 38-35, but
Bella Burrelli beat the buzzer to send the Fighting Scots into the break up 40-35.
Edinboro scored the first eight points of the third quarter to push the advantage to 48-35 on a layup by
Hayley Sims at the 7:40 mark of the third. The Huskies went on a 9-0 run of their own to as close as 48-42.
The Scots answered the Husky push with 13-4 run of their own to take a 61-46 lead on a
Jenna Babay free throw. Kale hit a triple for Bloomsburg and Bailee Brinson scored a layup for the Scots to make it 63-49 after three quarters.
In the fourth, the Scots scored first on a Burrelli layup and held a 68-54 advantage after an Elhusseini 3-pointer at the 8:38 mark of the quarter. Bloomsburg trimmed the lead to 70-63 with a 9-2 spurt, but the Scots finished the game on a 15-7 run of their own to close out the game and earn the victory.
The teams played a very even first quarter with neither team holding a lead of more than two and ending in a 17-17 tie.
Elhusseini paced the Scots scoring a game-high 29 points to go with six steals and four rebounds. Sims chipped in 14 points, three boards and three steals.
Morgan Gentile also scored in double figures with 11 points to go wtih three steals.
Katelin Starr paced the Huskies with 18 points while Kale added 12.
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Mercyhurst. Tip off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
