Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team split a PSAC West doubleheader with visiting UPJ Sunday afternoon.
The Mountain Cats took the opener 7-2 while the Scots bounced back for a 4-0 shutout victory in the nightcap.
In game two, the Edinboro got seven shutout innings of work from
Lauren Bush as she scattered five hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Bush also did work with the bat. She put the Scots on the board in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to centerfield.
In the fourth,
Mackenzie Quider led off with a solo homer of her own.
Maya Kozup and
Maura Pasquale followed with back-to-back singles. A fielder's choice put runners on the corners.
Kendra Keyser got caught stealing, but
Kayla Terwilliger drew a walk. Terwilliger took off for second and Kozup came across to score to make the score 3-0.
Lexi Klatt singled to start the sixth and eventually scored an insurance run on an RBI single by Quider.
Quider, Kozup and Bush each tallied two hits to lead the offense.
In the opener, Keyser got the Scots out to a 1-0 lead with a solo home run to center.
UPJ took the lead in the fifth on a three-run homer by Olivia Porter. The Mountain Cats added four insurance runs in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 7-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Quider led off with a double and was replaced by
Kearson Wagner. A Kozup fly ball moved Wagner to third. Pasquale singled home Wagner to set the final.
Macy Sral gave up seven runs over seven innings of work striking out five in the loss.
The Scots return to action on Monday when they host IUP at 2:30 p.m.
