Softball Drops Two Games at Clarion

Clarion, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team dropped both halves of a PSAC West doubleheader at Clarion Tuesday afternoon.

The Fighting Scots fell in the opener 5-4 before taking a 7-4 loss in the second half of the twin bill.

Clarion jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run homer by Mackenzie Wolf. The Scots cut the lead in half in the top of the second when Stephanie Crick singled home Maura Pasquale. Pasquale evened the game 2-2 with an RBI-single in the top of the fifth.

With two outs in the top of the sixth, Lauren Bush doubled down the leftfield line. Lexi Klatt singled and after moving to third on the hit, Bush came around to score on a misplay by the Golden Eagle centerfielder. Klatt would steal second and score on a Cheyenne Shughart double pushing the Edinboro lead to 4-2.

Clarion answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs of their own to set the final at 5-4.

Klatt was 3-for-4 from the lead-off spot while Shughart and Bush each recorded a pair of hits. Dylan Claycomb took the loss allowing three runs, one earned, in 3.2 innings of relief. She allowed five hits and two walks.

In the nightcap, Edinboro struck in the top of the first pushing across a run on bunt by Maya Kozup that plated Klatt.

Mackenzie Quider extended the lead with a two-run homer in the top of the third to make it 3-0 Scots. Wolfe hit her second home run of the day in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 3-1 and a sacrifice fly later in the inning trimmed the Scot lead to 3-2 after three.

Bush extended the lead in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly, but Clarion tallied four runs in the bottom or the frame to take a 6-4 lead. The Golden Eagles tallied an insurance marker in the sixth to set the final.

Klatt collected three more hits in the game two as did Pasquale. Bush took the loss in the circle allowing six runs, four earned, over four innings of work she struck out six and walked three.

The Scots return to action on Friday when they travel to Slippery Rock. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
