Bloomsburg, Pa. -- The Edinboro men's tennis team won its second consecutive PSAC conference title on Saturday afternoon over Mercyhurst, 4-3. In the final singles match Edinboro's Kaio Sacchi came out on top to clinch the victory.
In doubles Edinboro fell behind early after dropping two matches. The two losses gave Mercyhurst a 1-0 advantage, in a battle of first to four.
Singles play started with all six matches beginning at once. Ruben Acuna defeated Ben Davis 6-4, 6-1 which gave Edinboro one of their four points. Gustavo Martins got past Milan Jankovic in a competitive match that had a final score of 6-3, 6-4. Bruno Sabio earned Edinboro's third point of the match after he defeated David Akinpetide in a close one 7-5, 6-4.
After two wins from Mercyhurst, the match score was even at 3-3 with one final match still in play. Kaio Sacchi clinched the PSAC title for the Fighting Scots as he defeated Hristo Plasheski 6-3, 7-5. In the final, Edinboro defeated Mercyhurst 4-3.
Edinboro will be back in action on May 9th when they compete for the Atlantic Regional, both time and opponent are still to be determined.
