Volleyball Splits First Two Matches of Opening Tournament

Frankfort, Ky.- The Edinboro University Volleyball team kicked off the season by going (1-1) on the first day of the Kentucky State University Tournament. The Scots fell short in their first match against Maryville in just four sets. Later in the afternoon, Edinboro would earn their first win of the season by defeating Ohio Dominican in three quick sets. 

In the first set of the season against Maryville, the Scots delivered the initial punch. Edinboro won the opening set 25-22, behind four early kills from Bella Burrelli. The Saints would go on to win the next three sets and finished with a (.210) hitting percentage. 

Burrelli finished with 12 kills after a quick start in the first set. Alicia Eldredge controlled the offense with a game-high 29 assists for the Scots. On defense, Sally Sterkel came away with a game-high eight blocks, while Carly Pry finished with 22 digs. 

In Edinboro's second match of the day they would bounce back with a dominant win over Ohio Dominican University in just three sets. The Scot's defense was the story in game two. Edinboro held the Panthers under 18 points in each set. The Scots coerced Ohio Dominican into a (-.031) hitting percentage and forced 29 errors. On offense Edinboro finished with a hitting percentage of (.276), including 14 kills in the final set.  

Burrelli led the team again with nine kills while hitting at a (.286) clip. Natalie Pallone chipped in eight kills of her own with a (.353) clip. Eldredge led the match again in assists, as she finished with 23. On defense Jessie Michel and Erica Sharp both came up with four blocks each.  

Edinboro will be right back in action on Saturday for day two of the tournament as they match up against the University of West Alabama at 9 a.m. and Kentucky State University at 1 p.m.
