California, Pa. – The Fighting Scots capped off their last away trip with the women topping Cal. U, 137-66 and Clarion, 117-88. The men dropped to Clarion 144-56, with wins coming in the 200 free relay and
Ted Kinney winning in the 50 free.
Leia Ross' performance in the 100 breaststroke and backstroke stole the show for Edinboro. Ross took first in both, racing to the wall in a time of 1:06.83 in the 100 breastroke. This beat the previous fifth placed time of 1:06.89 held by Katelyn Kopacko placed in 2019-20. Holly Stein currently holds the quickest time for Edinboro, posting a time of 1:02.65 in 2014-15. The Cal pool record was then beaten by Ross with a time of 58.65. This time narrowly missed out on an Edinboro top-5 place, just shy of Victoria Brannan's time of 58.55 in 2011-12.
Ted Kinney continued his top performances in the 50 free, taking first placed finish in a time of 21.94.
Frank Barger posted a PSAC time of 22.65 for third.
The 200 medley relay team of
Leia Ross,
Lara De Carne,
Stephanie Sipple and
Makayla Scheu placed first at 1:52.52.
Stephanie Sipple dominated in the 1000 freestyle placing first at 10:53.12. The 100 butterfly saw Sipple pick up another first-place finish, touching the wall at 58.17, just shy of a season best.
Lara De Carne placed second in the same event with a time of 1:01.09 to clinch PSAC qualification.
Elijah Innis took second place in the 100 butterfly with another strong swim, finishing at 53.85.
Lara De Carne and
Avery Zuk competed to the finish in the 200 free. De Carne took first at 2:01.31, with Zuk closely following in second at 2:01.52.
Makayla Scheu continues to perform well in the 50 free posting another PSAC time of 25.57.
Paige Smith earned first place in the 200 IM at 2:15.70.
Baila Bugara took third at 2:18.05.
The final event of the evening saw the 200 freestyle relay team of
Luke Edmonds,
Frank Barger,
Elijah Innis and
Ted Kinney take victory in a time of 1:27.38.
After two days of top competition and performances, your Fighting Scots return to Edinboro for their final home meet of the season next week. Events begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, with our senior Scots to be recognized before competition begins.
