Edinboro, Pa. -- Despite 21 points and 15 rebounds from Kierell Green, the Edinboro men's basketball team fell to Pitt-Johnstown 77-63 on Wednesday night inside McComb Fieldhouse. With the loss, the Fighting Scots fall to (5-13) overall.
Off the opening tip it was Edinboro who started with a quick 4-0 lead including a big dunk from Rashon Barron and a finish from Green. During the next possession it was Green who connected on a deep three-pointer to extend the lead to 7-1 early in the first half. Minutes later Jaden Harper hit a three-pointer of his own to make it 10-5 Edinboro.
Pitt-Johnstown who came into the game as the most efficient shooting team in the PSAC would counter with a quick 13-0 run consisting of three triples. The Mountain Cats run would give them their first lead of the game at 18-10.
The Scots continued to fight down the stretch of the first half. It was the combination of the two bigs in Green and Barron who picked up consecutive buckets. Another ferocious dunk from Barron and another triple from Green cut the deficit to six points
In the final seven minutes of the half Pitt-Johnstown would connect on four three-pointers along with a few jumpers to sustain a 42-27 lead at the half. The Mountain Cats shot 9-14 from three-point range in the first half.
In the second half Edinboro would outscore Pitt-Johnstown and would increase their field goal percentage from the first half. The Scots began another half starting out hot with a 6-0 run to get the lead within ten points.
Green's layup made it 42-33 in favor of Pitt-Johnstown with 18:17 remaining in the game. From that point on the Scots would have trouble cutting the margin to single digits.
Pitt-Johnstown went on a 13-4 run where they made six out of seven shots and would gain their biggest lead of the game at 18 points as they lead 55-37. An Edinboro 6-0 run which was created by a jumper by Naim Miller and another triple from Green would get the Scots within 12 points.
Ultimately Pitt-Johnstown would run away with a 77-63 victory where they lead for the entire second half.
Green finished with another double-double consisting of 21 points and 15 rebounds. Harper added 16 points along with four three-pointers.
Edinboro will be back in action when they travel to Gannon on Saturday for a 3:00pm tip off.
