Greensburg, Pa. – The Edinboro football teams dropped a 38-28 decision to host Seton Hill Saturday afternoon at Offutt Field.
Seton Hill got on the board first going 62 yards in 10 plays capped by a two-yard touchdown by Ky'Ron Craggette with 3:08 to play in the first quarter.
The Scots answered right back on the ensuing drive when
Isaac Bernard found Amani Bailey for a 21-yard touchdown pass to close out a nine-play, 89-yard drive.
The Griffins retook the lead with 9:37 in the second on a 16-yard touchdown run by JaiQuawn McGriff. The Scots threw an interception on the ensuing possession, but the defense held Seton Hill to a field goal at the 4:08 mark of the second.
Edinboro blocked a Seton Hill punt with 38 seconds left in the first half and recovered it at the Griffin 15, but time expired on the final drive sending the teams into the half 17-7.
The Scot defense forced a pair of three-and-outs to start the second half, but the offense was forced to punt twice.
Reed Martin pinned the Griffins inside the 10 with 7:54 left in the third. Craggette extended the Seton Hill lead with an 86-yard rushing touchdown at the 6:06 mark.
Edinboro cut into the lead on a 19-yard touchdown run by
Brian Trobel with 46 seconds on the clock in the third. The Scots got a stop on the next Seton Hill possession, but a fumble on the punt return set up a 37-yard touchdown pass from Jake Cruz to Mark Bails to push the advantage to 31-13.
It took just two plays for the Scots to get back on the board with Bernard completing two passes to
Thaddeus Standfield for 38 yards and then a 37-yard touchdown cutting the lead to 31-20.
Seton Hill answered with a 14-play 73-yard touchdown drive to push the lead to 38-20. Edinboro went 75-yards in 13 plays capped by a Bernard to
Brodie List two-yard touchdown pass and
Teagan Brown hauled in the two-point conversion to set the final.
Bernard finished 18-of-39 for 272 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Bailey was the top target catching six passes for 114 yards. Trobel tallied 41 yards on seven carries to go with a score.
Defensively,
Toby Cline and
Zach Malpica each tallied nine tackles.
Malcolm Johnson and
Tristian Waldier each tallied eight stops.
Ty Thornton had six tackles, three tackles for loss including two sacks.
Craggette led the Griffin offense with 208 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. McGriff finished with 90 rushing yards and two scores.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they host Slippery Rock on Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
