Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro football team dropped a 56-18 decision to No. 5 Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium.
Edinboro got off to a fast start taking the opening kickoff and marching 67-yards on seven plays capped by a 15-yard touchdown pass from
Isaac Bernard to
Brian Trobel at the 11:32 mark of the first.
The Rock answered with an eight-play 68-yard drive of their own that ended with a Brayden Long to Cohen Russell 15-yard touchdown with 7:36 left in the first.
Brayden Lambert gave the Scots the lead back, 10-7, with a 29-yard field goal at the end of a 14-play, 66-yard drive that ate up over six minutes of clock.
Chris D'Or gave Slippery Rock their first lead of the game with 13:54 in the second on an 18-yard touchdown run. After both teams committed fumbled, Long hit Cohen for a 30-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 21-10 at the 6:12 mark of the second.
The Rock took a 28-10 advantage into the locker room when Kyle Sheets caught a nine-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left in the half.
Slippery Rock scored the first two scores of the second half with touchdowns from Khalid Dorsey Nathan Waltman to go ahead 42-10.
Edinboro cut into the Slippery Rock lead with nine-play, 63-yard drive capped by a five-yard touchdown from Bernard to
Thaddeus Standfield.
Armani Bailey converted the two-point play to make it 42-18.
The Rock scored twice more before the end of the game to set the final.
Bernard was 21-for-33 for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Bailey caught six passes for 85 yards while Standfield hauled in five passes for 65 yards and a score. Trobel rushed for 40 yards while also catching one pass for 15 yards.
Ahmad Brown made six tackles and recorded a pass breakup.
Zach Malpica and
Tristian Waldier also finished the day with six stops.
The Scots close out the season at Lock Haven next Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
