Volleyball Closes Out Season with Five Set Win Over Mercyhurst

Erie, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 victory over host Mercyhurst Friday night in the Scots season finale.
 
The Scots fell behind 2-1 in the match, and found themselves tied 6-6 in the fourth set. Kathryn Raschilla and Ericka Lindqvist each picked up kills and Jessica Hardin a service ace to put Edinboro up 9-6. The Lakers responded with a 3-1 spurt to trim the lead to 10-9. The Scots then scored four straight to push the advantage to 14-9. Mercyhurst would get as close as 18-16, but six straight points for Edinboro made it 24-16 in a set the Scots would eventually win 25-18.
 
Mercyhurst scored the first point of the fifth before Edinboro went on an 8-1 run taking an 8-2 lead as the teams switched sides. The Scot lead grew to 13-4 before the Lakers scored twice to make it 13-6. Bella Burrelli closed out the match with back-to-back kills to set the final at 15-6.
 
In the opening set, Mercyhurst got out to a 9-4 lead. The Scots responded with a 5-2 spurt capped by a Burrelli kill to cut the lead to 11-9. Mercyhurst came back with a 6-1 run of their own to push the lead back out to 17-10. Edinboro rallied again trimming the lead to 18-16, but four straight for the Lakers made it 22-16 as they would go on to win the first 25-19.
 
The Scots leveled the match in the second getting out to a 14-8 lead and using that momentum to take the set 25-15. Edinboro led 13-9 in the fourth, but Mercyhurst used a 10-2 run to grab a 19-15 lead and went on to take the fourth 25-19.
 
Raschilla led the Scots with 13 kills. Natalie Pallone and Makayla Neelands each tallied 10 kills. Burrelli added nine. Laney Burns recorded 23 assists while Abigale Soboleski finished the night with 22 helpers.
 
Carly Pry paced the defensive effort with 25 digs while Burrelli notched 20. Lindqvist and Neelands each picked up a pair of blocks.
 
The Scots closed the season 14-12 overall and 9-7 in the PSAC West.
