Findlay, Ohio – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped a 69-55 decision to host Findlay Tuesday night at the Cory Physical Education Center.
The Oilers jumped out to a 12-5 lead on a Janae Hoying 3-pointer at the 5:03 mark of the first quarter. The teams traded two-point buckets before Edinboro went on a 6-0 run with three points each from
Allyson Kirby and
Morgan Gentile to cut the lead to 14-13 with 25 seconds left in the first. Ella Mescher hit a triple as time ran out in the quarter to send the Oilers into the second up 17-13.
Findlay pushed heir lead out to 11, 26-15, with a 9-2 run to open the second quarter. Baskets by
Hayley Sims,
Ashten Boggs and Gentile trimmed the lead to 26-25 with 30 seconds left in the second. Hoying split a pair of free throws to make it 27-21 Oilers at the break.
Gillian Fisher hit two free throws to open the second half scoring and cutting the lead to 27-23. Findlay outscored the Scots 25-5 the rest of the third pushing the lead to 52-28 at the end of the third. In the fourth, the Scots fought back outscoring the Oilers 27-17.
Gentile led all scorers finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds as well as three blocks and three assists. Sims, Fisher and
Ava Haddad each tallied seven points.
Chloe Callahan paced the Oilers with 14 points. Kate Ellis added 12 and Hoying chipped in 11.
The Scots make their home debut on Tuesday when they host Wayne State at 5:30 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
