Men’s Basketball Scores Victory Over Host Kutztown in PSAC Opener

Kutztown, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team rallied past host Kutztown to score a 71-67 in their PSAC opener Friday night.
 
The Scots trailed 58-53 after Amir Cunningham hit a jumper for the Golden Bears at the 7:03 mark of the second half. Daunte Wilcott answered with a basket of his own and Bernie Blunt knotted the score at 6:05 with a trey. Wilcott scored the next four and Ian McNeill threw down a dunk at 2:55 to give the Scots a 64-58 advantage.
 
 The Edinboro lead grew to 67-60 after a Ryan Ladjevich free throw with 1:59 to play, but Kutztown answered with a 7-2 run to trim the lead to 69-67 with eight seconds to play, but Blunt iced the game with a pair of free throws setting the final.
 
Kutztown held a five point halftime advantage and pushed the lead to 36-29 with a Ryan Glassmacher layup to open the second. The Scots scored seven straight with five coming from Blunt and a bucket from Will Taylor to tie the score 36-36 at the 17:38 mark of the second.
 
The teams played level, 45-45, at the under 12 minute media timeout. The Golden Bear lead would grow to five three times, the last at 7:03.
 
Blunt hit a 3-pointer on the opening possession of the game and Edinboro used the momentum to build an 8-2 lead at the 15:40 mark of the first. Kutztown used eight straight points to take a 10-8 lead with 13:19 on the clock.
 
Blunt hit another 3-pointer at 12:48 to give the Scots an 11-10 advantage, but the Golden Bears responded with a 15-4 run to take a 26-15 advantage with 8:03 to play in the first. Edinboro finished the half with a 14-8 spurt to cut the halftime deficit to 34-29.
 
Blunt paced the offense for the Scots with 27 points to lead all scorers. Wilcott was efficient shooting 8-of-15 from the floor and recording a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds. McNeill tallied nine points and 10 boards.
 
Jaiden McGhee led the Kutztown offense with 12 points while Yahmir Satterfield added 10 points.
 
The Scots are back in action Saturday when they take on West Chester at 3 p.m.
