Men’s Basketball Falls to UPJ in Final Road Contest

Johnstown, Pa. -- Despite another dominant double-double from Dominique Keyes, the Edinboro men's basketball team fell Pitt-Johnstown 90-66 on Saturday afternoon inside the Sports Center. With the loss, the Scots drop to (5-20) overall.

In the opening minutes of action, it was the home team that couldn't miss. Pitt-Johnstown jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead after a layup by Drew Magestro. Moments later Edinboro went up on the board after a steal from Bryce Spriggs turned into a three-pointer by Jaden Harper at the other end.

Later in the half a 7-0 run from Edinboro would give them their first lead of the game. Harper connected on a jumper, followed by a triple from Briggs. Finally, a jumper in the paint from Naim Miller would give the Scots an 18-17 lead. Pitt-Johnstown would immediately counter with their own 8-0 run to regain the lead.

With twenty-three seconds left in the first half two free throws by Miller would cut the Mountain Cats lead to just ten points. As the halftime buzzer sounded UPJ's Jared Jakubick would convert on a pull up jumper to make it  49-37 at the break.

Out of the break Pitt-Johnstown would build upon their lead with a 14-6 run. UPJ now led 63-43 after an Edinboro turnover turned into a three-pointer from Drew Magestro. Pitt-Johnstown took advantage and looked to score off Edinboro turnovers. The Mountain Cats scored 26 points off turnovers compared to Edinboro's five.

Keyes led Edinboro with a game-high 24 points and 14 rebounds, including two three-pointers and six-for-six from the line. Kierell Green was one point short of a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.

Edinboro will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Gannon at 7:30 p.m.
