Five Scots Reach Double-Figures as Women’s Basketball Defeats Seton Hill in Opening Round of the PSAC Tournament

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team used a balanced and efficient attack to top visiting Seton Hill 79-61 Monday night inside McComb Fieldhouse in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament.
 
The Fighting Scots led by four at the break, 21-17, and came out of the locker room firing scoring the first 10 points of the third quarter with Gillian Fisher scoring seven of them to extend the lead to 51-37 with 5:23 to play in the third.
 
Seton Hill answered back with back-to-back 3-pointers from Christiane Frye and Courtney Tomas to trim the lead to 51-43. Rana Elhusseini hit a pair of free throws and Bella Burrelli connected on a layup to make it 55-43 Edinboro with 3:24 to play in the third. The teams would trade baskets to close out the quarter and the Scots held a 59-49 advantage.
 
In the fourth, the Scots lead grew to as many as 19, 73-54 after a Hayley Sims layup with 3:41 to play. The lead wouldn't fall below 15 the rest of the way.
 
It was the Griffins that came out of the gate hot in the first building a 15-9 lead on an Alie Seto jumper at the 4:40 mark. Edinboro closed the quarter on an 11-5 spurt to level the score at 20 after the first.
 
The teams traded the lead back-and-forth with five lead changes and one tie at 30 after a Seto triple at the 4:45 mark. The Scots went on an 11-5 run to grab a 41-35 lead. A Frye jumper at 1:02 sent the teams into the break with Edinboro holding a 41-37 advantage.
 
Frye was the leading scorer for the Griffins with 21 points while Seto chipped in 16.
 
Edinboro shot 53.6 percent from the field and 41.2 from 3-point range. Elhusseini lead all scorers with 23 points to go with six assists and five rebounds. Fisher added 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Burrelli added 13 points to go with eight rebounds. Lauren Mullen was 5-of-6 from the field and 2-of-2 from three for 12 points and Sims tallied 11 and a team-high nine boards.
 
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Cal for the PSAC quarterfinals. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
