Men’s Tennis Takes Out Nationally Ranked Belmont Abbey

Belmont, NC -- The Edinboro men continue their spring break trip by winning their fourth straight match as they improve to (7-1) overall. The Scots defeated Belmont Abbey College 4-3, in yet another close match. The Crusaders entered the season as a part of the ITA Top 25 team rankings. 

The Crusaders jumped out to a quick lead early in the match by earning the doubles point. Belmont Abbey earned two wins out of three to gain the 1-0 lead. 

For Edinboro, the duo of Bruno Sabio and Rocco Palombarini would avenge their loss from yesterday's match with a 6-3 win over Nicholas Scheller and Charlie Fremaux. Sabio and Palombarinin collected Edinboro's only win in doubles. 

In singles the Edinboro men continued to fight in what was an uphill battle. In order to clinch a match victory, the Scots had to earn at least four wins.  

The Edinboro men would prevail with four vigorous wins in singles. Sabio bested Fremaux 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 in a close match that went into an extra set. 

Ruben Acuna kept his singles streak alive by winning his fourth straight as he defeated Alex Turner in extra sets 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. 

Gustavo Martins took care of business over Jai Rowe 6-3, 6-2 as he earned his fifth singles win of the year. 

Thibault Dorval helped Edinboro earn their fourth point by prevailing over Scheller 6-4, 7-6 (5) after a tiebreaker in the second set. Dorval earned his sixth win in singles. 

Edinboro will continue their spring break trip when they match up against Francis Marion University on Wednesday, with the match beginning at noon.
