Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team split a pair of games with visiting Pitt-Johnstown Friday afternoon in a PSAC West doubleheader.
The Scots took the opener 2-0 and had their comeback bid come up just short in a 6-5 loss in game two.
In the opener, starting pitcher
Macy Sral was perfect through four innings before Tori Radvan doubled with one out in the fifth. The Scots got a pair of ground outs to get out of trouble.
Edinboro finally broke the tie in the back of the fifth.
Lauren Bush opened the inning with a walk.
Antonia Schaefer singled to move Bush to second.
Olivia Weller advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt before
Stephanie Krick doubled home two runs.
UPJ put runners on in the sixth, but Sral completed the shutout allowing just three hits while striking out six.
Maura Pasquale paced the offense with a 3-for-3 game.
The Mountain Cats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first in game two on a Radvan home run.
Cheyenne Shughart got one back for the Scots in the bottom of the frame singling home Krick.
UPJ added a pair of unearned runs in the third to push the lead to 5-1. In the fourth,
Kearson Wagner trimmed the lead to 5-2 with an RBI single.
Edinboro ran into trouble with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth. Reliever Analise Smith limited the damage allowing just one run to make it 6-2 UPJ.
Shughart hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to trim the lead to 6-4. The Scots got another run in the sixth when a Wagner singled was misplayed in left field allowing pinch-runner
Emily Lacki to score.
Edinboro put a pair of runners on with two outs in the seventh, but couldn't tie the game in the final frame.
Shughart finished the game 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Wagner added a pair of hits.
Lauren Bush took the loss allowing six runs, four earned over four innings of work.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Clarion. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
