The Edinboro Athletic department mourns the loss of Hall of Famer and iconic Fighting Scot Jim Romaniszyn.
Romaniszyn was a two-sport standout playing both football and basketball. He is the only Fighting Scot to ever play in both the football and basketball national tournaments.
On the gridiron, Romaniszyn was a two-time NAIA All-American and is the only Fighting Scot to eclipse 1,000 yards rushing (1,266) and receiving (1,088).
"Jim was a teammate, but more importantly a great friend," said teammate and Edinboro Hall of Famer Dennis Creehan. "In our undefeated season he moved from wide receiver to running back and we never missed a beat. Off the field we could always count on Jim for a laugh. This is devastating news and our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
In 1973, he was selected in the 13
th round by the Cleveland Browns and is still the only Fighting Scot drafted into the NFL. The Browns moved Romaniszyn to the linebacker where he would play for five seasons between the Browns and the Patriots.
Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
