Men’s Basketball Drops Hard-Fought Battle to East Stroudsburg

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team took East Stroudsburg to the wire falling 93-84 at McComb Fieldhouse Wednesday afternoon.
 
At the 13:34 mark of the second half, the Scots trailed 67-58 after a Tyshawn Trail jumper. Ian McNeill kicked off a 10-0 run capped by a Bernie Blunt triple at 11:28 giving the Scots a 68-67 lead heading into the under 12 media timeout.
 
Terrell Pitts gave East Stroudsburg the lead back and the teams went back and forth with the Warriors holding a 73-72 advantage after a pair of Blunt free throws at 9:07. East Stroudsburg scored five straight to extend the lead to 78-72 with 7:14 to play. Edinboro trimmed the lead to four, 78-74, on a pair of JJ Eubank, but four straight for the Warriors made it 82-74.
 
Blunt hit a jumper at the 5:03 mark and Eubank hit a triple after a defensive stop. Blunt scored again at 3:55 to pull the Scots back within one, 82-81. Four straight points for East Stroudsburg and solid free throw shooting gave the Warriors the win.
 
The Scots opened the second half down 57-41 after a Jaelen McGlone layup. Edinboro chipped away at the with a 17-6 run keyed by six points from Jack Gallagher to trim the lead to 63-58 at the  14:17 mark.
 
East Stroudsburg got out of the gate fast building a 19-10 lead on a pair of Trail free throws at the 15:26 mark of the first. Gallagher hit a pair of free throws and Eubank hit a triple to trim the lead to 19-15 at the 14:44 mark. The Warriors extended the lead to 25-17 at the 11:41 mark on a McGlone dunk that broke the rim and forced a stoppage of nearly 20 minutes. McGlone hit the free throw after the break to extend the lead to 26-17.
 
The Scots seized momentum out of the break using a 7-4 spurt to cut the lead back to cu the lead back to 30-24 on a Blunt trey at 8:59. The Warrior lead grew to 16, 55-39, after a Shamir Johnson jumper with 46 seconds to play in the first half. Blunt closed the half with two free throws to cut the lead to 55-41 at the half.
 
Blunt scored 24 points to go with six assists and five rebounds. Eubank was 6-of-7 from the field and 4-of-4 from beyond the arc to finish with 18 points. Daunte Wilcott added 12 points and eight rebounds. Gallagher also scored 12 with six boards. Madior Seye was the fifth Scot to score in double figures with 10 points.
 
McGlone led the Warriors with 19 points. Lakeem McAliley and Griffin each tallied 17 points.
 
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they host Clarion in their PSAC West opener. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. in McComb Fieldhouse.
