Men’s Basketball Scores Win Over Kutztown in PSAC Opener

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team shot over 50 percent from the field and nearly 60 percent from beyond the arc in a 93-58 victory over Kutztown Friday night inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
The Scots came out of the gates firing hitting six 3-pointers including a triple by Evan Berger at the 11:44 mark to build a 22-12 lead heading into the under-12 media timeout. Kutztown answered with an 8-3 spurt to cut the lead to 25-20 with 7:58 remaining in the first half.
 
The teams traded buckets with Edinboro holding a 31-25 lead after Jordan Nkoa Abessolo hit a pair of free throws for Kutztown. The Scots closed the half on a 10-2 run with six points from Cenker Evran and four from Steve Kelly to take a 41-27 lead into the break.
 
Edinboro continued the momentum into the second half opening with another 16-5 run capped by a Bryce Baez trye at the 15:27 mark to make it 57-32.
 
The Golden Bears shaved the lead down to 60-41 with a 9-3 spurt, but the Scots responded with a 13-6 run of their own as Ryan Ladjevich scored a layup at 6:58 to extend the lead to 73-47. The Edinboro lead never fell below 25 the rest of the way.
 
Eleven different Scots got onto the scoresheet led by 16 points from Kelly. He also tallied six assists and two steals. Berger tallied 14 points, two steals and two helpers. Evran extended his double-double streak to six games with 11 points and 19 rebounds to go with three helpers and two blocks. Mekhi Reynolds and Daunte Wilcott each added nine points.
 
Jalen Bryant was the leading scorer for Kutztown with 22 points and two rebounds. Jaiden McGhee was the only other Golden Bear to score in double figures with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
 
The Scots return to action on Saturday when they host West Chester at 3 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
