Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team dropped a 109-82 decision to No. 8 California (PA) Saturday afternoon in the Scots season finale inside McComb Fieldhouse.
Bernie Blunt gave the Scots the lead early hitting a triple at the 17:16 mark of the first half to make it 5-4 Edinboro. The Vulcans scored the next seven points to grab an 11-5 lead with 15:28 left in the opening frame.
Jack Gallagher scored the next four points and
Will Taylor hit a pair of free throws part of a 6-2 spurt that cut the Cal lead to 13-11 with 14:06 on the clock. Cal answered with a 5-2 run to push the lead back to 18-13 at the 13:30 mark.
Taylor and Gallagher each scored buckets for the Scots to cut the lead to one, 18-17, with 12:29 to play in the first, but the Vulcans used a 20-6 run capped by a Zyan Collins 3-pointer to take a 38-23 lead into the under eight-minute media timeout.
The Scots would trim the lead to 11 three times in the first half, the latest at 42-31 after two
Aaron Hopkins free throws at the 5:16 mark. Cal closed the half on a 24-6 spurt to take a 66-37 advantage into the locker room. Edinboro would get as close as 24 in the second half but couldn't close the gap farther.
Gallagher led the team in scoring posting a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds in his final appearance in McComb Fieldhouse. Blunt tallied 23 points and five rebounds for the Scots.
KJ McClurg paced the Vulcans with 26 points and Keith Palek III notched 17 points and seven rebounds.
