Softball Splits PSAC West Doubleheader at IUP

Indiana, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team split a PSAC West doubleheader at IUP on Friday at Ruth Podbielski Field.
 
The Scots rallied for an 8-4 victory in the series opener and then had a furious comeback come up just short in an 11-10 loss in the night cap.
 
How it Happened Game One
The Scots jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Adeline Maguire led off the game with a solo home run. Back-to-back doubles by Maura Pasquale and Stephanie Krick extended the lead to 2-0. Krick scored on a fielding error by the leftfielder off the bat of Morgan Spitler. Emily Clark drove in a Spitler with a double of her own.
 
IUP tied the game with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The Scots loaded the bases in the seventh it singles by Clark and Madalyn Valoroso and an Isabella Becker walk. Lauren push plated Clark with a sacrifice fly. Lucy Higley drew a walk to load the bases and Maguire doubled to right center clearing the bases and setting the final.
 
Stat Leaders
Maguire went 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored. Clark and Valoroso each notched three hits. Macy Sral scored the win in the circle allowing four runs on 10 hits over seven innings of work with six strikeouts and three walks.
 
How it Happened Game Two
The Crimson Hawks got out to a 6-1 lead after three innings. Maguire doubled home Becker and Pasquale singled home Maguire. Krick doubled in Pasquale to cut the lead to 6-4 in the fourth.
 
IUP answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to push the lead back to 10-4. Spitler cut the lead to 10-6 with a two-run homer in the sixth. In the seventh, Maguire doubled home a pair of runs to trim the lead to 10-8. Pasquale double home Maguire and then scored on a Spitler single. The Crimson Hawks walked the game off with a run in the bottom of the inning.
 
Stat Leaders
Maguire finished the game 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. Spitler also drove in three runs on a pair of hits while Pasquale scored three runs. Sral took the loss in relief allowing three runs on four hits over three innings of work including striking out six.
 
Up Next
The Scots will make their home debut on Tuesday when they host Mercyhurst at the Edinboro Softball Field. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
