Erie, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team never got the offense going as they fell to host Gannon Wednesday night in the PSAC Quarterfinals inside the Haggerty Family Events Center.
The Scots trailed 27-20 with 4:29 left in the second quarter.
Maura Suman hit a jumper and
Gillian Fisher connected on a 3-pointer trimming the lead to 27-25 at the 3:23 mark. The teams clamped down defensively and went into the locker room at 27-25.
The teams traded free throws to start the third, but the Golden Knights went on an 11-4 spurt to build a 39-30 lead.
Ashten Boggs cut the lead to 39-32 with a layup, but couldn't convert the and-one. Gannon scored the next 12 points capped by a Carissa Dunham 3-pointer to extend the lead to 51-32.
Morgan Gentile split a pair of free throws to send the game to fourth with Gannon holding a 51-33 advantage. Kate Ratliff hit a triple at the open of the fourth to extending the lead to 54-34. The Scots wouldn't get closer that 17 the rest of the way.
Gannon got out to an 8-0 lead to start the game, but the Scots responded with a 16-4 spurt including 10 points from
Morgan Gentile to take a 16-12 lead with 1:20 left in the first. The Golden Knights scored the final four points of the quarter to tie the game 16-16.
Suman gave the Scots the lead back with the first bucket of the second quarter. Gannon used an 11-2 run to take a 27-20 lead at the 4:29 mark.
The Scots shot just 25 percent from the field. Gentile led all scorers with 21 points to go with four rebounds and two steals. Fisher tallied seven points, nine boards and three blocks.
Bri Claxon paced Gannon with 15 points. Ratliff added 13 points while Sam Pirosko added 11 points and nine boards.
