Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team split a pair of games with visiting California (PA) Monday afternoon at the Edinboro Softball Field.
The Scots battled their way to an 11-9 win in the opener before dropping a 16-1 decision in the night cap.
How it Happened Game One
With the game tied 9-9, heading to the bottom of the fifth,
Isabella Becker slapped an infield single scoring
Adeline Maguire from third to give the Scots a 10-9 lead. Lucy Higley hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to provide a critical insurance run and set the final.
The Vulcans came out early and scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Edinboro came right back with four runs in the bottom of the frame keyed by a two run single from
Morgan Spitler. Kaitlyn Achtermeier tied the game in the second with a solo home run.
Stephanie Krick and
Lauren Bush each recorded RBI doubles as the Scots took the lead back 7-4 after two.
Higley hit a solo blast in the third and Krick notched an RBI on a sacrifice fly extending the lead to 9-4. The Vulcans answered with five runs in the fourth to tie the game 9-9.
Stat Leaders
Higley was 3-for-4 with the two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored. Maguire was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and a hit by pitch and four runs scored. Becks was 2-for-3 while Krick was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Lauren Bush picked up the win going five innings allowing three runs with three strikeouts.
How it Happened Game Two
In game two, Cal jumped on the Scots early scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning. The Vulcan lead would grow to 13-0 after the top of the third. Maguire doubled home
Kayla Terwilliger for the Scots lone run of the game in the bottom of the third.
Stat Leaders
Terwilliger was 2-for-2 to lead the Edinboro offense.
Annalise Smith took the loss in the circle.
Lexi Frisina pitched three innings of relief allowing three runs while striking out two.
Record Setting Day
With her double in the second game, Maguire became the Edinboro single season doubles record. She now has 14 doubles on the year.
