Softball Splits Doubleheader with Mercyhurst

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team split a pair of games with visiting Mercyhurst Tuesday afternoon at the Edinboro Softball Field.
 
The Scots dropped the opener 6-4 before scoring a 9-1 six inning victory in the second game.
 
How it Happened Game One
The Lakers scored first on a Brianne Egelston solo home run in the top of the second. The Scots responded in the bottom of the frame when Kearson Wagner singled up the middle plating Lauren Bush knotting the score 1-1.
 
Mercyhurst scored two runs in the top of the third to take a 3-2 lead. Edinboro got one back when in the top of the third when Lauren Bush scored from third on a throw down to second as Maura Pasquale stole second. Kayla Terwilliger notched an infield single in the bottom of the fourth and a Laker misplay allowed Isabella Becker to score tying the game 3-3.
 
Bailey Cannon hit a two-run homer for the Lakers to make it 5-3 in the fifth. Mercyhurst added an insurance run in the top of the sixth. Pasquale belted a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to trim the lead to 6-4, but that was as close as the Scots would get in the opener.
 
Stat Leaders
Pasquale was 2-for-3 on the game with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Wagner and Becker each added a pair of hits. Lauren Bush took the loss in the circle going seven innings allowing six runs, three earned, while striking out four.
 
How it Happened Game 2
The Scots did their damage with the long ball in the second game. Pasquale got the scoring started with a two-run blast in the bottom of the first. Bush extended the lead with a two run homer of her own in the third making it 4-0.
 
Kayla Terwilliger hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead to 5-0. Eliza Reynolds put the Lakers on the board in the top of the sixth with an RBI single scoring Kacie Irwin.
 
In the bottom of the frame, Morgan Spitler hit a two-run homer and Adeline Maguire drove home two with a walk-off single invoking the 8-run rule with one out in the sixth.
 
Stat Leaders
Spitler turned in a 2-for-3 effort with two RBI and a run scored. Maguire, Pasquale and Bush each added a pair of RBI. Macy Sral scattered five hits over six innings of work allowing just one run while striking out three.
 
Up Next
The Scots will return to action on Thursday when they host Gannon at the Edinboro Softball Field. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
