Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's tennis team defeated Mercyhurst 4-0 in the Atlantic Region 2 final to earn their spot at the NCAA Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Next week.
The Scots got out to a quick start in doubles with
Stanislas Noel and
Thibault Dorval defeating Juan Carlos Hernandez Briones and Sviatoslav Koliadynski 6-1 in the number three spot. Gordan Mileusnic and
Fabricio Sosa Pons secured the doubles point at number two with a 6-4 decision over Ben Davis and Lukas Cabue.
Noel kept the momentum going for Edinboro knocking off Davis 6-2, 6-2 to make it 2-0 Scots. At number six,
Gustavo Martins tallied a 6-4, 6-1 win over Koliadynski to put the Scots up 3-0.
The clincher came at number one as
Bruno Sabio defeated Danylo Rekun 7-5, 6-4 and sending the Scots to the NCAA Championship for the second time in three seasons.
The First Round of the NCAA Championship is Tuesday, May 21 in Altamonte Springs. The Scots will await the rest of the regional results to see the field and who their opponent will be on Tuesday.
