Frostburg, Md. – The Edinboro volleyball team went 2-0 on the final day of the Bobcat Invitational Saturday scoring wins over Kutztown and host Frostburg State.
Against Kutztown, the Scots jumped out fast in the first set getting out to a 16-8 lead. The Golden Bears closed the gap to 21-18 with a 10-5 run, but the Scots scored three of the next four points to push the lead to 24-19. Kutztown scored three-straight points to get as close as 24-22, but
Makayla Neelands scored a kill to close out the first set 25-22.
In the second, Edinboro trailed 11-6, but they rattled off seven straight points to grab a 13-11 lead. The teams traded points with Edinboro holding a 19-18 edge after a Kutztown kill by Christina Lockett. The Scots scored the next six points to grab a 25-18 set win.
The Scots got out to an 11-6 lead in the third and never looked back on their way to a 25-15 win in the third.
Jessica Hardin led the Edinboro offense with 12 kills while
Erika Lindqvist added 10 kills. Hardin also tallied four service aces and seven digs.
Carly Pry recorded a team-high 12 digs.
Abigale Soboleski notched 18 assists while
Laney Burns chipped in 13 helpers.
The Scots dominated the first set against Frostburg State jumping out to a 19-6 lead including a seven-point run. Edinboro would take the first 25-10.
Edinboro trailed 10-9 in the second, but an 8-2 run gave the Scots a 17-12 lead. Dani Kunkle notched a kill for the Bobcats before the Scots scored the next eight points to take the second 25-13.
With the score tied 14-14 in the third, the Scots scored four of the next five points including three kills from Neelands to take an 18-15 lead. Frostburg trimmed the lead to 22-21, but the Scots closed the match with a 3-1 run to take the set 25-22.
Neelands paced the offense with 16 kills to go with two service aces, and three blocks. Hardin also reached double figure kills with 13. Burns triggered the offense with 16 assists while Soboleski tallied 13 helpers. Soboleski also led the team in digs with 19.
The Scots make their home debut on Tuesday when they host Ursuline at 6 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
