Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team went 13-24 from beyond the arc to score an 81-65 victory over visiting IUP Monday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
The Scots came out of the gate fast jumping to a 14-4 lead on a
Cenker Evran dunk at the 14:30 mark of the first half. IUP answered with a 5-2 spurt to trim the lead to 16-9. Back-to-back layups from
Daunte Wilcott pushed the lead back to 20-9 with 10:32 on the clock.
Christian Moore cut the lead to 20-12 for the Crimson Hawks, but
Evan Berger answered with a triple of his own sparking a 15-6 run that extended the Edinboro lead to 35-18 with 2:52 left in the opening half. The Crimson Hawks finished the half with a 4-2 spurt to trim the Scots halftime lead to 37-22.
The Scots continued to build the lead early in the second half opening the frame on a 15-3 run to push the lead out to 52-25 on an Evran layup at the 16:27 mark.
IUP trimmed the lead to 21, 55-34, with 13:44 to play on a Moore layup.
Steve Kelly answered for the Scots with a 3-pointer on the next Edinboro possession. The Crimson Hawks pushed back cutting the lead to 62-50 with 8:15 remaining after 16-4 run.
Kelly hit a triple with 7:18 to play stopping the IUP run and the Edinboro lead didn't fall below 12 the rest of the game.
Kelly scored 22 points shooting 6-of10 from distance while also dishing out six assists.
Michael Dunn also tallied 22 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three. Evran tallied his 10
th double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Wilcott also reached double figure scoring with 12 points.
Moore paced the IUP offense with 20 points and five assists. Damir Brooks scored 17 points and grabbed six boards.
The Scots return to action on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at Pitt-Johnstown.
