Erie, Pa. – The Edinboro football team scored a 41-20 road victory over Gannon Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action inside McConnell Family Stadium.
 
The Scots trailed 14-7 late in the second quarter, when the defense made a play to set up the offense. On second and 10 from their own eight, the Golden Knights dropped back to pass. Ty Hurst was swarmed and 
Sunday Ikegwuonu forced a fumble and recovered the ball at the Gannon 1-yard line. The Scots took over and 
Bo Swartz forced his way in from the one to tie the game 14-14 with 2:55 left in the first half.
 
The Golden Knights started to move the ball on the ensuing drive, but the Scot defense forced a fourth and seven from the Scot 40-yard line. The punt snap sailed over the head of the Gannon punter rolling all the way to the Golden Knight 31-yard line where the Scots took over with 1:13 remaining in the opening half.
 
The Scots ran the clock down before 
Nico Marchitelli hit 
Jaret Frantz for a 25-yard touchdown pass that sent Edinboro into the half leading 21-14.
 
Edinboro picked up right where they left off in the second half. Taking the ball out of the break, 
DaeDae Allen returned the kick to the Edinboro 22-yard line. Marchitelli hit Frantz for a 23-yard completion on the first play of the and 
Jerry Dinkins III broke off a 21-yard run to advance the ball to the Gannon 34. A 10-yard completion to Frantz and a seven-yard scamper for Marchitelli put the ball in the redzone at the Gannon 17. Marchitelli found 
Jeremiah Neeley for nine yards to set up first and goal from the eight. A six-yard rush from Dinkins set up Marchitelli for a two-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 27-14 with 11:06 left in the third.
 
After another stop from the defense, the Scots got the ground game going. Edinboro took over on their own 20. 
Caron Robinson got the first three carries of the drive ripping off runs of five, 28 and 25 to move the ball all the way to the Gannon 22-yard line. After back-to-back runs for no gain, Marchitelli completed his first pass of the drive, a 22-yard strike to 
Jaret Frantz for the touchdown to push the Edinboro advantage to 34-14 at the 3:24 mark of the third quarter.
 
A nice kick return and an Edinboro penalty gave Gannon the ball on the Scots' side of the 50 on the ensuing drive. 
Nick Pennucci intercepted Hurst on the first play of drive to give the Scots the ball back with 3:01 remaining in the third. Edinboro punted the ball back to the Golden Knights with 1:06 left in the third.
 
Gannon would cut the lead to 34-20 on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Hurst to Damario Moore capping a nine-play, 83-yard drive at the 11:04 mark of the fourth quarter.
 
The Scots put the game out of reach by taking the ball back and marching 63 yards in 14 plays eating up 7:26 of clock before Robinson pushed his way to the endzone setting the final with 3:31 left in the game.
 
Robinson carried the ball 10 times for 96 yards and a touchdown. Marchitelli finished the game 13-of-20 for 154 yards and two touchdowns through the air while also rushing eight times for 47 yards and a touchdown. Swartz scored a pair of touchdowns on four carries. Frantz was the top target for the Scots catching four balls for 80 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
 
Nate Deanes and 
Amari Jones led the Edinboro defense with six tackles each. Ikegwuonu was a disruptive force up front making 2.5 tackles for loss including two sacks, a pair of forced fumbles, a fumble recover and a pass breakup. Pennucci and 
Devin Barren each recorded an interception for the Scots.
 
Hurst finished the day 15-of-25 for 204 yards, two touchdowns and two picks. Tristen Kenan rushed 15 times for 100 yards. Moore was the top receiver catching five passes for 96 yards and a score. Tyshawn Stewart made 10 tackles to lead the Golden Knight defense.
 
Edinboro returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Seton Hill for a noon kickoff against the Griffins.
