Indiana, Pa. – The Edinboro football team fell 35-12 to host IUP on Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action at George P. Miller Stadium.
The Crimson Hawks opened the scoring. Parker Gregg capped off a six-play 70-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run at the 9:13 mark of the first quarter. The ensuing Edinboro position ended with a fumble that was recovered IUP at the Edinboro 11. IUP used just one play an 11-yard pass from Matthew Rueve to Devin Whitlock to extend the lead to 14-0 with 8:20 remaining in the first.
Before of the end of the first quarter the Crimson Hawks extended the lead. After a second Edinboro fumble, the Crimson Hawks moved the ball 61 yards capped off with a five-yard touchdown from Rueve to Cyair Clark to push the lead to 21-0 with 35 seconds on the clock in the first.
Edinboro responded on the next drive.
Nico Marchitelli hit
Junior Aderomilehin for 29 yards on the second play of drive to move the ball to the IUP 47 and a roughing the passer call moved it down to the 32. Marchitelli finished the drive with a 13-yard touchdown completion to
Isaiah Grier. The two-point conversion was no good making 21-6 with 10:27 left in the second quarter.
On the ensuing IUP drive Rueve connected with Leon Parson, but
Ty Reali forced a fumble and
Montrice Webster recovered it getting the Scots the ball back at the IUP 32. Edinboro pushed the ball to the IUP 18, but the drive stalled out before
Tanner Bruzda connected on a 35-yard field goal to cut the lead to 21-9.
After Edinboro got a stop on the second half's first possession, the Scots moved the ball to their own 44. Marchitelli was sacked and lost the ball and Terrell Williams recovered the fumble and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown pushing the lead to 28-9 with 4:45 on the clock in the third.
IUP extended the lead on a Parson's two-yard touchdown run with 14:18 left in the game finishing off a five-play 47-yard drive making the score 35-9. Edinboro put together an 11-play 60-yard drive capped by a Bruzda 26-yard field goal with 4:00 to play to set the final at 35-12.
Caron Robinson carried the ball 11 times for 61 yards to lead the offense. Marchitelli finished the day 9-of-18 for 98 yards and a touchdown. Aderomillehin caught four passes for 56 yards.
Nick Pennucci led the Edinboro defense with six tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Daunte White added four stops, one sack, a forced fumble and an interception.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they host California (Pa.) at 2 p.m. on Homecoming at Sox Harrison Stadium.
