Volleyball Falls to Slippery Rock in Season Finale

Edinboro, Pa. –The Edinboro women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to visiting Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
In the opening set, Slippery Rock built a 7-3 lead after a Callie Chevalier kill. Edinboro answered with a 3-1 spurt cutting the advantage to 8-6 on a Faith Schneider kill. The teams traded points with the Rock holding 11-9 led after a kill by the Scots' Makayla Neelands. Slippery Rock reeled off four straight points to extend the advantage to 15-9. A Slippery Rock error, two kills from Reilly Parent and a Schneider service ace trimmed the lead to 15-13. Slippery Rock grabbed control of the set with a 7-1 run capped by a block from Victoria Nalbach and Hayden Deming to pull ahead 22-14. The Rock held off the Scots for a 25-18 set win.
 
After a Parent service ace in the second set, Edinboro held a 6-4 lead. The Rock responded with nine straight points to take a 13-6 lead. Edinboro trimmed the lead to 14-9 with a 3-1 spurt with kills from Maggie Koster, Schneider and Neelands. Slippery Rock went on a 10-4 run of their own to grab a 24-13 lead. Koster recorded a kill and Laney Burns recorded a service ace sandwiching a Rock error to make the score 24-16. Chevalier closed out the set with a kill 25-16.
 
In the third set, Slippery Rock held a 12-10 advantage. Neelands started a 3-1 run with a kill and Parent capped the run with a kill to knot the score 13-13. Deming gave the Rock the lead back with a kill, but kills from Koster and Hiott put Edinboro back on top 15-14. The score was level at 18 after an attack error from the Scots. A pair of Rock errors gave the Scots a 20-18 advantage. Nalbach trimmed the lead to 20-19 before a 4-0 run gave the Scots a 24-19 lead. The Rock went on a 5-0 run of their own to level the score at 24-24. The set was still tied at 26-26 when Parent tallied a kill to put the Scots up 27-26. A Slippery Rock attack error gave the Scots a 28-26 lead.
 
The Scots jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the fourth. An Elles van Kallenburg kill extended the Edinboro lead to 12-7. Slippery Rock answered back with a 4-0 run to trim the lead to 12-11. Kills from Schneider and Neelands pushed the lead back to 14-11. The Scot lead grew to 19-14 on a Hiott kill. The Rock used a 6-1 spurt to even the score 20-20. Neelands tallied a pair of kills to keep the score even 22-22, but kills by Marley Annis and Ava Haynes gave the Rock a 24-22 lead. Neelands tallied a kill to close the gap to 24-23. Chevalier finished the match with a kill to give the Rock a 25-23 set win.
 
Parent paced the Edinboro offense with 19 kills while Neelands chipped in 15. Grace Petro triggered the offense with 27 assists while Burns added 22 helpers. Schneider tallied a team-high 19 digs.
