California, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team fell 88-64 to host California (Pa.) Saturday afternoon in the teams' regular-season finale inside the Convocation Center.
The Scots were behind 11-4 after a Jordyn Buchanan triple at the 15:40 mark of the first half.
Michael Dunn connected on a 3-pointer of his own and
Ryan Ladjevich and
Daunte Wilcott each scored buckets to tie the game 11-11 at the 12:10 mark. The Vulcans answered with a 9-2 spurt to take the lead back 20-13 on a Keondre DeShileds trey with 10:26 left in the first half.
Ladjevich hit a triple at the 10:07 mark and
Daunte Wilcott hit a layup to trim the Cal advantage to 22-18 with 8:28 to play in the first half. Cal pushed the lead out to 35-21 on a Dalman Alexander bucket at the 3:45 mark.
Evan Berger scored eight points as part of a 10-0 run to trim the lead to 35-31 with 1:24 left in the opening frame. The Vulcans scored the half's last four points to extend the halftime lead to 39-31.
Cal opened the second half on a 14-6 run to extend the lead to 55-37 on a Donald Whitehead jumper at the 15:19 mark. Wilcott trimmed the lead to 55-40 with an and-one on the next possession.
The Scots kept the lead at 15, 64-49, after a pair of
Steve Kelly free throws at the 11:03 mark. Cal scored the next five points to push the lead to 69-49 and didn't have the lead slip below 18 the rest of the way.
Berger led the Edinboro offense with 18 points including four 3-pointers while also grabbing seven rebounds. Ladjevich notched 12 points and nine rebounds. Wilcott added 11 points and four boards.
Whitehead paced the Vulcans with 20 points. Cam Polak added 19 points. Buchanan and DeShields each finished with 12.
The Scots are the third seed in the PSAC West and will play host to Seton Hill on Monday in the first round of the conference tournament. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
