Softball Splits PSAC West Doubleheader at Gannon

Erie, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team split a doubleheader with host Gannon Tuesday afternoon in the PSAC West opener for both teams.

Game 1
The Scots rapped out 11 hits and scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh taking a 4-3 victory in the series opener.

With the game-tied 3-3 heading to the final frame, Hilary Sissem walked to open the seventh. After a strikeout, Sissem was erased at second on a Cassidy Weller fielder's choice. Weller stole second. Isabelle Bavaro delivered an RBI double to put the Scots up 4-3.

In the bottom of the inning, Giana Ficcaglia sat the Golden Knights down in order to finish the complete game and pick up the first win of her collegiate career in the circle.

Edinboro got out of the gate fast with Adeline Maguire leading off with a single and then stealing a pair of bases. Sissem drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Lucy Higley singled home Maguire to put Edinboro up 1-0. Higley and Sissem each stole a base to put runners on second and third. Bavaro hit a single plating Sissem and Bella Becker drove in Higley putting the Scots up 3-0.

Gannon scored once in the third and twice more in the fifth to tie the game.

Maguire went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Bavaro and Becker each tallied a pair of hits. Ficcaglia struck out three in seven innings of work in the circle with no walks.

Game 2
In the second game, Gannon flipped the script getting out to an early lead taking advantage of an Edinboro error to score three runs, two unearned, in the bottom of the first inning.

The Golden Knights extended the lead in the bottom of the fourth scoring a pair of insurance runs.

Maguire led off the sixth inning with a triple. Sissem brought her home with a groundout to the shortstop setting the final at 5-1.

Maguire was 1-for-3 in game two with a run scored. Bavaro was the only other Scot to record a hit in game two.

Grace Kessel took the loss in the circle allowing three runs, one earned, in 2.2 innings work with one strikeout and two walks.

The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they travel to IUP. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
