Indiana, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team dropped two games to host IUP on Sunday in a PSAC West doubleheader.
Game 1
In the opener, the Crimson Hawks earned a 13-0 victory in five innings. IUP took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Jordan Sylvia.
The Scots threatened in the top of the second when
Cassidy Weller led off with a single and moved to third on an
Isabelle Bavaro double, but a line out, strikeout and ground out left the runners stranded.
IUP pushed the led to 7-0 in the third keyed by a grand slam from Jess Cekada. The Crimson Hawks scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth led by a three-run double by Jaycee Haidze to set the 13-0 final.
Weller, Bavaro and
Abigail Olejniczak each finished the game 1-for-2.
Giana Ficcaglia took the loss in the circle allowing seven runs, six earned, with four strikeouts and three walks.
Game 2
In the second contest, IUP jumped out early again taking advantage of an Edinboro error to score eight runs, only one earned, in the bottom of the first inning.
Reagan Rand hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second to extend the lead to 10-0 after two. The Scots got on the board in the top of the third when
Adeline Maguire tripled to center plating
Emalie Thomas who had singled to lead off the inning.
The Crimson Hawks scored in the bottom of the third when Maddie Griffin stole home. Edinboro battled back in the top of the fourth.
Jocelyn Williams drew a bases-loaded walk forcing home
Hilary Sissem. The next batter,
Sydney Lochocki, also drew a free pass scoring Bavaro to cut the lead to 12-3. After a fielder's choice erased
Ashley Rose at home, Maguire belted a double to right field clearing the bases and cutting the lead to 12-6 but was thrown out at third trying to stretch the play into a triple ending the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Sylvia singled home a pair of runs triggering the eight-run rule and ending the game 14-6.
Maguire went 2-for-3 with four RBI to lead the Edinboro offense in game two.
Annalise Smith took the loss in the circle allowing 10 runs, three earned, with one strikeout in 1.1 innings of work.
The Scots are back in action on Friday when they host their home opener against Pitt-Johnstown. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at the Edinboro Softball Field.
