Softball Drops Pair to IUP

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team fell in both halves of a PSAC West doubleheader against visiting IUP on Saturday.
 
The Crimson Hawks scored a 10-1 victory in game one before taking the nightcap 14-1.
 
Game One
 
The Scots got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Adeline Maguire hit the first pitch she saw over the left field fence for a lead-off home run. IUP took the lead in the top of the second when Madison Pikula singled home a pair of runs to make it 2-1.
 
IUP scored two more in the fourth  before putting up six runs in the sixth keyed by a Delaney Patella bases clearing triple to set the 10-1 final.
 
Abigail Olejniczak added a single and a walk to Maguire's home run to lead the Scot offense. Grace Kessel took the loss in the circle going 5.1 innings allowing eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits with seven strikeouts.
 
Game Two
In the second contest, Edinboro again struck first. Maguire singled to lead off and moved to second on a Hilary Sissem sacrifice bunt. After a fly out, Isabelle Bavaro double home Maguire making it 1-0.
 
IUP answered in the top of the second with five runs aided on four hits to take a 5-1 lead. IUP tacked on a run in the third and then scored eight more in the fifth to set the final at 14-1.
 
Maguire and Bavaro each tallied two hits for the Scots. Kelsey Warren took the loss in the circle allowing six runs on seven hits over three innings of work.
 
The Scots are back in action on Sunday when they host Pitt-Johnstown. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
